A Penny's Worth of Thoughts, Vol. 4

Something I think people sometimes obsess over is normalcy and perfection.  Let me start off by saying that neither one of them exist, they are simply a perception, not an actuality.  Consider this: take a person who seeks perfection, someone who gets nervous when their grade in school drops below 95. I'm sure some of you guys know someone like that.  What we see as perfection, to them, is normal, because it is a habit of theirs.  Now take someone who wants to be normal.  They seek so much to change themselves to fit in with others.  In their minds, the normal people they want to be seem perfect.

Perfection and normality can be overrated, depending on the viewpoint you are looking at each one.  I know of some people who try to be perfect in games they play, and get upset if they lose or something goes wrong.  I can understand getting upset, but honest truth it, things go wrong.  You can't prevent it, it just does sometimes.  In my opinion, it's good that things do go wrong though.  Some of you are probably giving your computer screens a funny look, but hear me out.  It's good that things go wrong because we learn how to better handle ourselves when they do.

Consider this as my personal explanation.  Something I'm around most of the time are alarms that signal when there is a possible fire in the dryer, and when something on the outside system has stopped working for some reason.  The two have a very different sound to them, and they give us training videos and tell us what we need to do in case of a fire.  Well, one time, one of the alarms went off, and I had a panic moment, because it was my first time hearing one of them.  I thought it was the dryer alarm, so I rushed to get my supervisor, who was at lunch at the time.  Turns out it was the alarm for the outside system.  But, something went wrong, and that moment of panic is something that, no matter what videos you watch, what people advise you, or anything, nothing can prepare you for.  But when things go wrong and you have that moment of panic, you learn what it's like, and it become less and less of a panic every time.

Just a penny's worth of thoughts, for anyone who wants to read them.
